Designing a Sports Discovery Platform for Everyday Athletes

A European sports platform helping users discover nearby sport events across mobile. This case study focuses on the mobile, designed to make it easier for users to explore and book local sport events based on their needs and preferences

Understanding User Needs: What Real Users Told Us?

To understand how people currently find and book sports events, we conducted both interviews and a targeted survey. Here’s what we heard directly from users:

  • I just want to find events that match my time, location, and budget, it shouldn’t be this hard

  • There’s no easy way to compare events side-by-side to pick what’s best for me

  • I get lost switching between websites and apps. I just want one place where I can filter everything easily

  • I need something that actually confirms my booking. I’ve had events disappear before

Survey highlights:

• 77.8% care most about date & time, 69.4% about location

• 69.4% struggle to find events that match their criteria

• 52.8% want to save favorite events, 47.2% want better filters

What we learned?
  • Listening to users helped uncover pain points that weren’t obvious from assumptions

  • Simple filters and trust-building moments (like booking confirmation) go a long way

  • Even without full data, thoughtful research and iteration helped shape a solid experience
